FAQs

MOT testing – your questions answered

How much is an MOT at Camerons Volkswagen in Perth?

An MOT costs £54.85 for any Volkswagen – petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric. If your car fails and we carry out the repairs, the retest is free.

When does my car need its first MOT?

Cars need their first MOT three years after they were first registered, and then every 12 months. You can have the test up to a month (minus a day) before the current certificate runs out and keep the same renewal date.

How long does an MOT take?

The test itself takes around 45 minutes to an hour. If you are waiting with us, our customer lounge has free Wi-Fi and refreshments; a courtesy car or collection and delivery can be arranged if you let us know when you book.

What happens if my Volkswagen fails its MOT?

We will call you with a clear explanation and a firm price before any work is done. If you choose to have the repairs carried out by us, we retest the car free of charge.

Can I drive my car if the MOT has expired?

Only to a pre-booked MOT appointment or to a garage for repairs needed for the test. Driving without a valid MOT otherwise can mean a fine and invalidated insurance.

Do electric cars need an MOT?

Yes. Electric Volkswagens such as the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.7 need an MOT from three years old, just like any other car. There is no emissions test, but everything else is checked.

Can I have a service at the same time as my MOT?

Yes, and we recommend it. Booking both together saves a second visit. Fixed price servicing starts from £299, or £199 for electric models.

Do I need to bring anything to my MOT?

No. We can look up your car from the registration. If you have your locking wheel nut key, please leave it in the car.
