Fitted and coded properly

Why the battery must be coded

Modern Volkswagens monitor the battery closely to manage start-stop and charging. When a new battery is fitted it has to be registered with the car’s energy management system; if it is not, the car keeps charging as if the old battery were still there, and the new one can fail early. We fit the exact type for your car and code it with Volkswagen diagnostics.

  • Battery type confirmed from your VIN
  • Registered to the car with Volkswagen ODIS diagnostics
  • Settings and radio retained

FAQs

Batteries – your questions answered

How much is a new car battery at Camerons Volkswagen?

Prices depend on the battery type your car needs – AGM, EFB or standard. Book a free test and we will quote a firm price for the right Genuine battery, fitted and coded.

How long does a car battery last?

Usually four to six years. Short journeys, cold winters and lots of electrical equipment shorten its life, so we recommend a test every autumn once the battery is over three years old.

Can I replace a Volkswagen battery myself?

On most modern Volkswagens the new battery must be coded to the car, otherwise the charging system will not look after it properly and it may fail early. We fit and code it in under an hour.

What does the battery warning light mean?

A red battery light while driving means the battery is not being charged – usually an alternator or drive belt problem. Have it checked as soon as possible.

Why has my start-stop stopped working?

The system switches off when the battery cannot support it, so it is often the first sign of a tired battery. A free test will confirm.

Do electric cars have a 12V battery?

Yes. Every ID. has a 12V battery that powers the electronics and wakes up the high-voltage system. If it fails the car will not start, so we check it at every service.

What do you do with my old battery?

We take it away and return it to Volkswagen’s recycling scheme free of charge.
