In hatchback form, the Volkswagen Golf is already a superb all-rounder; with an estate body style, the car offers even greater practicality. The new Golf Estate is an excellent choice for growing families, boasting plenty of passenger space and a capacious boot.
The new Golf Estate has received a facelift that provides the car with a more refined look, with a new bumper and more expansive air intakes, for example. Naturally, with the Golf Estate, practicality is the key. The car possesses a five-door body style, ensuring that access for all passengers is straightforward. Other useful features include smart-looking black roof rails that provide the option to carry extra items, such as bicycles or camping equipment. The boot opening is wide and features a low-load sill – which makes sliding big, heavy items in and out a breeze.
While the new Golf Estate comfortably seats four full-size adults, it is particularly ideal when transporting three younger passengers in the back row. Both compartments offer lots of head and legroom, and each seat is comfortable and supportive, which is particularly welcome during long journeys. The driver also benefits from a height-adjustable position.
Stowage cubbies abound with, for instance, large felt-lined door pockets; perfect for keeping one-litre bottles upright. A class-competitive 605 litre should be more than enough for most purposes but if more capacity is required, simply fold the car’s rear seats to reveal 1,620 litres of luggage volume.
Considering its size, this estate iteration of the Golf handles extremely well. Entry-level S trims are typically fitted with a 1.2-litre 85bhp petrol engine, which manages up to 56mpg and a 115g/km CO2 emission figure. If you would like your vehicle to deliver optimal fuel efficiency, select a model that is installed with a 1.6-lite 110bhp diesel unit. This returns as much as 80mpg and produces emissions as low as 92g/km.
An intuitive and minimum-size 6.5-inch touchscreen provides access to, among other things, the Golf Estate’s eight-speaker sound system, which includes DAB radio and a CD player.
Mirrors your mobile device. Keeping you safe and easy to install.
Bluetooth connectivity features as standard too, allowing audio streaming and hands-free telephone communication.
The Golf Estate comes with a five-star crash-test rating, as awarded by safety specialists Euro NCAP. A wide range of driver aids and passive protective features are included to help keep everyone on board as safe as possible. Included are Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Traction Control for increased stability – and Hill-hold Assist, which prevents the car from rolling whenever the engine is started on an incline.
