Just like the hard-top Volkswagen Beetle, the new Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet boasts a flawless blend of retro styling and superb performance. Yet this time you can also ride around with the top down and the wind in your hair.
This fun-loving convertible is a contemporary take on an icon – combining robust design and excellent engineering with a big personality. Curved edges and body-coloured bumpers are eye-catching – and they’re even more distinctive if you upgrade to the sportier R-Line trim.
The multi-layer fabric roof goes up or down in just 9.5 seconds – and you can activate it at the touch of a button at speeds of up to 30mph. It also acts as an insulator, shielding you from engine and noise road. Customise your new Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet with your choice of paint finish – how about Tornado Red, Blue Silk Metallic or Pure White?
The fun continues in the cabin – and yet there’s plenty of practicality to be found, too. You’ll find an interior similar to that of the hard-top Beetle, including the exceptional build quality. The colourful dashboard is another highlight, enhancing this model’s sense of energy.
Seats are supportive and comfortable, keeping you firmly in place as you tackle sharp corners. There’s plenty of room for front and rear passengers, as well as 225 litres of boot space. This amount of space is usually hard to come by in a convertible.
The Beetle Cabriolet is equipped with the same engine range as the hatchback. The four-strong line-up of refined units includes two petrol and two diesel units. There’s a turbo charged 104bhp 1.2-litre petrol, which returns up to 52mpg – and it’ll hit 60mph in less than under 11 seconds. If you want more power, choose the 148bhp 1.4-litre variant, which hits the mark in just nine seconds. If you’re looking for diesel, the 108bhp 2.0-litre powertrain gives you 59mpg and reaches 60mph in less than 11 seconds. Opt for the 148bhp version to reduce this time to 8.9 seconds.
In addition, all trims have extra bracing and intelligent rear suspension – ensuring top performance for both top-down and top-up driving.
Safety and technology
With the new Beetle Cabriolet, supreme safety comes as standard. You get six airbags for all-round coverage and electronic stability control that keeps you firmly fixed to the road. Add the optional hill-holder clutch for an extra touch of security – it’s designed to stop you rolling back on uphill junctions. You can also add parking sensors and cruise control for extra convenience.
As for technology, mid-level trims and above are kitted out with air conditioning and DAB radio as standard. A host of optional extras are on offer – including touchscreen satellite navigation and a crystal-clear Fender sound system.
